The bad news: Gas prices continue to rise. The good news: There are ways you can fight back as the numbers on the pump climb steadily upwards.
Follow these tips to lessen the gasoline-induced strain on your wallet:
Find The Cheapest Station Around. Log on to www.gasbuddy.comor www.gaspricewatch.com. Enter your zip code into the search box to find gasoline prices at stations close to you.
You can also save money by purchasing a membership to a wholesale store that offers discounted gas. If it’s not worth it to you to purchase a membership, check gas prices at the stations nearby the wholesale store - oftentimes their prices are low in order to remain competitive.
If you’re already on the road, remember that the richest areas in town will charge the most for gasoline. Fueling up at gas stations near major highways will also cost more; if you must stop while traveling on a highway, fill up near the state border, where prices are often more competitive. Service stations will also have more expensive gas because their main source of revenue comes from repairing cars, not fueling them up.
Time Your Fuel-Ups. A Wednesday morning is traditionally the best time to get gas, since prices have settled back down after the weekend.
You can also try purchasing gas in the morning, when it’s cooler. Gasoline is denser at this time, meaning you’ll literally get more gas for your green by fueling up in the AM.
